    Aventura Go Red Way

AVENTURA HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL CENTER SHOWS COMMITMENT BY HAVING THE HOSPITAL “GO RED DAY” TO SUPPORT NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY FOR WOMEN AND THE FIGHT AGAINST HEART DISEASE

Too few women realize that heart disease is their No. 1 killer and are taking action to prevent it. But the good news is that heart disease can largely be prevented. For that reason, the Go Red For Women movement encourages women to improve their heart health while taking action to fight women’s heart disease. Aventura Hospital and Medical Center showed their commitment to the community by having our hospital “Go Red Day”.

February is American Heart Month and the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Campaign is encouraging women to improve their heart health while taking action to fight their number one killer. Through this campaign, the goal is to empower women with the knowledge and tools they need to make positive feedback lifestyle changes that will raise awareness and help reduce their risk of heart disease. Nationally, the color of Red is promoted as a symbol for heart disease and to further established the American Heart Association as the leading authority on the subject. Support for this National movement will help raise women’s awareness of cardiovascular disease and empower women to reduce their risk.

Heather J. Rohan, CEO of Aventura Hospital and Medical Center and Chair of the Miami-Dade County Go Red for Women Luncheon, taking place May 9th invited the staff, physicians, and the community to take a healthy walk around the campus. Immediately, following the walk, walkers were invited to a luncheon. In addition, Alfredo Rego, M.D., Cardiovascular Services Medical Director, and Alan Ackermann, D.O., Chief of Cardiology spoke about the importance of taking care of your heart and the hospital’s Open Heart Program and Cardiovascular Services. Also, stroke and open heart surgery survivors told their compelling personal stories and their struggle with heart disease.

“We can no longer ignore heart disease,” said Heather J. Rohan, CEO of Aventura Hospital and 2007 Miami-Dade County Go Red for Women Luncheon Chair. “While awareness is important, it’s time for women to take action now – take the Go Red Heart CheckUp and learn how to protect their hearts. By taking the CheckUp, they will know what’s in store for them if they change nothing. This is a CheckUp no woman should miss.”

Steps that can be taken according to the American Heart Association to take care of your heart:

Love Your Heart, Take the Heart CheckUp. By loving your own heart, you can save it. When women learn to love their hearts, they can appreciate their health, their life and their loved ones. Visit GoRedForWomen.org for the CheckUp and tips to keep your heart healthy.

Go Red in Your Own Fashion. Going red in your own fashion is about finding your personal way to take part in the fight against heart disease in women. Whether it’s visiting your healthcare provider, eating a healthier diet, increasing your exercise, purchasing products that support the cause, or wearing red on National Wear Red Day – the first Friday of every February – you can take action to love your heart.
